CAPTOR (iOS) 5.0.5: Improved Camera Performance + Barcode Reader Support + More

Josh Bohls

This week we released CAPTOR (iOS) 5.0.5. Here is a quick overview of what is new and improved.

Camera Performance. There is a lot going on under the hood of the CAPTOR camera -the app does not just take photos. For every photo captured, the app processes location data, object recognition, optical character recognition, encryption, photo processing, thumbnails, file nomenclature, and more. The 5.0.5 release dramatically improves the camera performance, enabling a user to take photos faster. The increased performance is a key criteria for many of our customers, such as police officers and insurance adjustors.

Barcode Reader Support. CAPTOR has had support for reading QR Codes for many years. The app now has added support for reading other types of barcodes and symbols, including Code 39/93/128, UPC-E, EAN8, EAN13, DataMatrix-Code, and ITF14. When the app detects one of these barcode symbols in the camera preview, it will display the text string or URL and allow the user to either copy the results or open the URL with the managed browser. If your organization requires support for a barcode style that is not yet included please let us know by opening up a support ticket.

New Full-Screen Content View. CAPTOR added a new content view that displays photos, videos, audio visualizer, and documents in full screen format, allowing app users to swipe left and right to preview content within a folder. The view can be toggled between 1) Detailed View, which displays a small thumbnail with the file name, location, and time/date of capture, 2) Thumbnail View, which displays a grid of content thumbnails, and 3) Full-Screen Content View.

We hope you enjoy and appreciate the new CAPTOR features. Please continue to send us feedback and ideas for improvement. Cheers!

There are too many new features and changes to mention in one blog post, so we will summarize some of the more noticeable changes here:

  • Goodbye Home. CAPTOR now opens up to the “capture mode” of your choice. Set your default capture mode to Photo, Video, Doc, or Audio and the app will launch directly into the selected mode.

  • Disable Unused Modes. CAPTOR now enables you to disable modes that are not relevant to your job. Once disabled, they are completely removed from the app.

  • New photo and video Mode Settings, with controls for low light exposure, FPS, and more.

While today marks the start of the CAPTOR 5.0 rollout, we have much to do. Next we will be releasing CAPTOR for Ivanti/MobileIron, and then Intune and BlackBerry. Please send feedback using our Support page.
