Inkscreen helps government and enterprise customers securely capture and manage content. CAPTOR has been called a “camera app on steroids wearing a bulletproof vest”, combining photo, video, and audio capture with full document scanning, encrypted containerized storage, and IT controls to manage how content is created, stored, and shared.

Inkscreen LLC recently hired an accessibility testing consultant group to review the CAPTOR apps and compose a detailed VPAT report for government procurement purposes. That VPAT report can be found HERE.

Inkscreen LLC is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Measures to support accessibility

Inkscreen LLC takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of CAPTOR by Inkscreen:

  • Include accessibility throughout our internal policies.

  • Assign clear accessibility targets and responsibilities.

  • Respond to accessibility requests and suggestions from customers and partners.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a law that requires the Federal Government to provide access to its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to people with disabilities. ICT applies to the information technology and other equipment your agency procures, develops, uses, and maintains. In short, this policy aims to make websites, web apps, electronic documents, and software accessible to people with disabilities.

Under the Act on Equal Opportunities for Disabled Persons (Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz – BGG) and the Regulation on the Creation of Barrier-Free Information Technology in accordance with the BGG (Barrierefreie-Informationstechnik-Verordnung – BITV 2.0), Federal authorities are required to enable and guarantee full barrier-free access to modern information and communication technology.

CAPTOR by Inkscreen mobile applications and the www.inkscreen.com website are partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and BITV 2.0. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Inkscreen is fully committed to improving the accessibility of its mobile applications and websites. Accessibility testing will be conducted on all major releases, and our engineers understand the importance of developing accessibility into all new features and components of our technology.

Additional accessibility considerations

The CAPTOR applications are functionally camera apps and require some level of visual acuity and dexterity to perform many of the intended use cases, such as taking a photo or scanning a paper document.

Accessibility of CAPTOR by Inkscreen relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of mobile device operating system, web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer or mobile device:

  • iOS and iPadOS (VoiceOver, Zoom, etc)

  • Android (TalkBack, etc.)

Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of CAPTOR by Inkscreen, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for CAPTOR by Inkscreen:

  1. Some functional buttons in the CAPTOR applications cannot be enlarged due to UI size constraints.: The layout of the application and the size constraints of the various mobile devices that are supported create some limitations on how large text labels can be set. Our effort to support a wide variety of devices and form factors limits the ability to enlarge buttons and text labels beyond a certain point.. We will continue to make screen layout decisions and updates with a focus on maximizing the accessibility and usability of our applications.. Please report any issues that may arise when text labels or buttons are resized to a point where functionality or usability is hindered.

  2. Some functional buttons in CAPTOR do not support voice-over technology.: While most of the navigational, functional, and settings buttons allow “voice-over" technology, there are some components whereby voice-over is not practical. Some of the capture modes, such as video and audio recording, require the use of the microphone to record audio. Voice-over technology interferes with audio capture in a way that dramatically impacts the functionality of the app. We will continue to seek ways to maximize the use of voice-over technology for visually impaired application users. Please report any issues with voice-over technology which you feel could be addressed without impacting the clear functionality of the application. .
